Transition from twelfth grade to life is one of the most stressful times in the lives of young adults.

If the teenager also has a Learning Difference, Executive Function Disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder, the transition is often overwhelming and full of anxiety and procrastination.

Transitions at Janus eases this bridge between high school and adulthood for these young adults and their families. The 1 or 2-year program is based at the campus of The Janus School.

Experiential education is central to the day-to-day schedule as young adults explore not just vocational tracks and creative problem solving, but who they are outside a classroom as a student of life.

Janus expertise facilitates the discovery of a personalized path for every young adult at Transitions. This discovery is about exploring possibilities and engaging in real-life experiences, and finding life passions - then, taking the steps towards achievement.

Transitions is serious about every young adult achieving a tangible outcome - a solid plan in progress by the end of the second year and the self-confidence and added maturity to make it happen.

That’s why every day at Transitions is spent “figuring it out” by using structured curriculums and strengthening well-being in an empowering environment. And, every young adult is paired with a one-to-one Janus mentor & coach, an advocate to guide ideas into achievements.

Transitions is a supportive environment to make goals reality - as well as to be connected to peers and community networks. In fact, peer collaboration and community engagement are as central to Transition’s learning tenets as work-readiness.

A solid foundation for success takes some time - Transitions is following our own passion of meeting students’ potentials and filling this critical gap between secondary education and adulthood.

 There's More Than One Path

We opened Transitions in August, 2017 with the objective to to teach students that there is more than one path and to guide them to find the one that's right for them.  That's why students' schedules are personalized after the first semester.

As a 1 or 2 year program, Transitions is helping students - and families - be comfortable with less support as the semesters pass and independence grows.

These student schedules give a glimpse to what happens during the days of each semester: T@J_StudentScheduleExamples

When do we know when a student is ready to leave Transitions?  When we've done the job to not just line up a plan, but to have its implementation in motion.  Whether its college, vocational training, or gainful employment - we believe there is a unique path for every young adult and it takes time and exploration to find it.

Our Alumni's Success Stories

Building Lifelong Skills

"Janus couldn't have prepared me better for college. Janus gave me the skills to better understand myself, to read and solve math problems at a higher level, and to advocate for myself. Without the skills I learned at Janus, I wouldn't be achieving success today. I use the skills I learned at Janus to study at college every single day."

A Recipe for Success

"The Janus School was a great environment for learning because the teachers never stopped teaching until you understood and they really wanted you to do well. Going to Janus taught me more than all of my years in regular school. Attending Janus was a relief for me, and it gave me confidence because I had opportunities to do things that I would not have had at an ordinary school."

Passing on Learned Lessons

"The Janus School has given me the platform of a great education that I have used during my career in education. One of the main reasons why I have chosen a career in elementary education is because of the teachers at The Janus School who showed me that I was able to learn. In my educational career I have never met teachers and staff that are as dedicated as they are."

Jumping the Hurdles

"Having been a student at The Janus School, I realize that any limitations on future success would be self-imposed. I am capable of great things if I am willing to work hard for them."

The Road to Independence

"At The Janus School, I learned to be more independent. I learned that there isn't always going to be someone there to keep you organized, you have to do it on your own. Organization is one of the biggest key factors in our lives."

A Hundred Thanks

"The Janus School helped me deal with the frustrations that came along with dyslexia. There is no cure for having a learning disability but The Janus School helped me use the strengths I had to build an easier learning environment. The skills I learned helped me through high school, the military, and college. Thank you a hundred times."

The Rewards of Dedication

"In 1997 I became the first graduate of The Janus School. I went on to attend HACC and Elizabethtown College and worked as a teller at Fulton Bank. Today I am the Lead Cash Management Specialist in Patient Financial Services at Lancaster General Hospital. My success in the business and financial world is a tangible outcome of the attention and education I received as a student at Janus."

The Gift of Confidence

“I am overwhelmed with joy that our son’s teachers have been and continue to be caring, competent and energetic people that not only look at his individual learning differences, but also seem to genuinely care about him as an individual.”

“My husband and I are just so, so amazed of all that Janus has taught our daughter in this short time…”

“We are in awe of what you have accomplished for our son and in such a short amount of time.”

“My deepest gratitude and appreciation for the staff at Janus that is working with our son, he would never get this attention and expertise anywhere else.”

“Our son is not only getting an academic education from Janus, but he has found a place where he can get the support he needs to be himself.”

“Our daughter is more confident of herself and her future, and we know she will strive to be successful.”

“No matter the issue or concern, Janus has offered continued support and advice that has not only touched our son’s life, but has taught us how to function better as a family.”

“Through every triumph and trial, Janus’ support never once faltered!”

“I know there is no other school that can offer such hopes and dreams for a satisfying life.”

“As parents of children with learning differences, Janus and it’s highly skilled and motivated staff has provided us with the support structure of help and hope rather than despair.”
