student and art teacher using 3d printing lab

The Janus School’s Makerspace is a hub for creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning where students in all grade levels come together to design and innovate.  This space is an important part of our mission to help students become lifelong learners and creative problem solvers.  It is a place where students enter with excitement and curiosity as they bring their ideas to life, while building confidence and future-ready skills.

With our first purchase of four 3D printers in 2016,  Janus’ Makerspace has grown to include a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and a screen printing system. It is a launchpad for imagination and innovation where students and teachers bring ideas to life across every subject area. From math students designing 3D-printed houses with accessible ramps, to art and social studies classes creating custom t-shirts and props with the laser and vinyl cutters, hands-on learning happens every day. Reading and creative arts students use design tools to build dioramas and architectural models, while Get REAL classes craft furniture for younger learners. Executive Skills Workshop students 3D print fidgets to support focus, and seniors have even designed educational tools for community partners like Lancaster County Parks. Each fall, the entire school joins together to 3D print toys for Toys for Tots, blending creativity, compassion, and real-world impact.
