Dear Members of The Janus School Community:
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee, I am excited to announce the appointment of Heather L. Strunk as The Janus School’s next Head of School, effective July 1, 2023. Heather currently serves as the Director of Academics at Janus, a position she has held since 2015. Heather has served in a variety of leadership and educational roles since 2010.
The board’s decision came at the conclusion of an intensive search process initiated in March of 2022 and concluding in Fall, 2022. We engaged the services of Carney Sandoe & Associates (CS&A) to lead us through the recruitment process. The initial phase of the search began in earnest with CS&A visiting the site, surveying the Janus School community, and meeting with focus groups. During three months of recruiting, CS&A reviewed and interviewed close to 50 candidates for the Head of School position, and then presented the Search Committee with 10 dossiers for consideration. After careful and thorough evaluation, and a deep sense of commitment and consensus by the Search Committee, three finalists were invited to campus to spend two days at Janus in September when school was back in session. During each visit, the finalists met with members of all constituents of our school community. Those who met with the finalists were asked to complete a survey asking for their perspective and opinions.
At the conclusion of these visits, the Head of School Search Committee was unanimous in its recommendation of Heather L. Strunk. Throughout the comprehensive process, Heather emerged as the educational leader who best embodies the core attributes our school community seeks in our next head. The Committee was particularly drawn to Heather’s demonstrated capacity for visible and visionary leadership; her proven ability to inspire and engage all constituents across our school community with clear communication and authenticity; and her significant experience in innovative programming, specifically in curricular design, and her school-wide leadership of areas such as Admission, Development, and Marketing.
It is indeed an honor to present Heather L. Strunk as the next Head of School at The Janus School beginning in July of 2023.
